Why is an Ultrasound important?
During a major decision-making moment in your pregnancy, an ultrasound can bring you great clarity. Receiving an ultrasound is an essential step to the pregnancy confirmation process. To determine what your pregnancy options are, you will first need to confirm your pregnancy with this step. An ultrasound reveals three major components to your pregnancy, including:
- If you have a viable pregnancy (with a heartbeat and growing pregnancy)
- The location of your pregnancy
- The gestational age of your pregnancy (how many weeks you are)
If you are thinking about the option of abortion, you will need to obtain an ultrasound as proof of pregnancy and learn how far along you are to determine which type of procedure you qualify for.
How Does an Ultrasound Work?
Ultrasounds are normally a very easy and painless process. During a prenatal ultrasound, high-frequency sound waves are transmitted through the abdomen with a device called a transducer. A gel-like substance is put on your abdomen and then the transducer is used to send the sound waves. Echoes are returned through the transducer and recorded.
